I think William came to the US around 1875-1879. I don't have an exact date yet. Still looking. I found a Wm Stokes, Emily Stokes-wife and John Stokes-son in the 1880 US census in Minnesota. I feel th>is is my Wm and John. I am not sure who Emily was. John had her marked as his mother on a marriage return as Emily Barton. She may have been Harriett's sister. I cannot find a marriage for Wm and Emil>
y anywhere in England so they may have married in the US.
Wm and John came west to Washington Territory in the late 1880's. Emily was not with them. I found a marriage return for Wm Stokes and Susan Sampson, a northwest Indian from British Columbia. Wm settl>ed in the Skagit Valley of Washington State. He purchased property here and died here in 1906.
My g-grandfather, John Stokes, also settled here in Washington State. My grandmother and mother were both born here in the Skagit Valley.
