John is listed as a deserter in WI Civil War records, but is apparently the son who died shortly after the Civil War and mentioned in his mother's obituary as "...gave two of their sons to the war of >the rebellion, one dying in the service [Edwin], and the other soon after his return home..." [Dunn Co. News, 3 Nov 1883, 4:2]
John was not located after the 1860 Census.
